Inspirations II – Leading through Engagement

A leadership development programme jointly delivered by DCC and an external consultancy to meet needs at an individual, service and organisation level. A leading edge programme using the latest tools and coaching techniques.

Inspiration – Leading through Engagement challenges individuals to raise their profile in the organisation and supports their self-development into the high level leaders of the future.

This programme is endorsed by Phil Norrey and the corporate Leadership Group (formerly CLT) and delegates are nominated through the LG.

This development initiative is central to the change programme for Devon CC, hence the term ‘transformational leadership’. The organisation will not modernise, unless its leadership capacity grows and modernises, too.

We all need to think like leaders by providing clear direction and creating a sense of purpose that people can engage with, and be inspired by.

This programme will undoubtedly contribute to your individual/professional development, and it will also help to create a critical mass of managers who can –

    • think strategically and creatively
    • are reflective and insightful about themselves and those they manage
    • handle change sensitively and skilfully
    • behave with integrity, and be open to ideas and advice
    • nurture talent, in all its forms
    • embrace diversity

In short, the aim is for you to be seen as a visible group, who is confident about leading change across and outside the organisation.

N.B. These expectations will be supported by the programme facilitators at all times


The programme will be built around the following:

360 Audit – Delegates’ strengths and development needs will be assessed by receiving structured feedback from their manager, peers, customers and subordinates and their own self-assessment. This assessment is the recently developed Strengthscope360.

Delegates will have an opportunity to review the comprehensive feedback on a one to one basis with an appointed coach before the main three day Inspiration workshop

Inspirational Leadership workshop – an intensive 3 day residential where everyone has an opportunity to lead a leadership challenge, receive feedback on their leadership style and develop new ways of working.

Self Managed Learning – encourages individuals to take responsibility for their own development, drive their own learning, continually reflect upon current performance and take initiatives to further enhance their effectiveness.

One to one coaching – throughout the eight month programme delegates will have the opportunity to meet with an experienced management coach on three to four occasions to discuss in depth their developmental issues.

‘Making a Difference’ Groupwork – starting over the 3 day workshop this will involve working on real organisational issues and initiatives. The group will need to focus on learning and actually implementing solutions to make an impact on our business. It is a form of learning by doing which enables people to handle difficult situations more effectively.

Facilitators’ Role – throughout this programme our role is to provide a framework and opportunity for participants to learn and develop, and to help create a challenging learning environment for all participants. The programme typically consists of 12-15 delegates facilitated jointly by an external development consultant and a member of the Corporate Performance Development Team.

Accreditation by ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) at Level 7 – The programme content and delivery is accredited by ILM at level 7.
Currently the qualification is not available for the individual delegates, however can be considered.
