TitleWorking in the Political Environment
IntroductionTo understand more about the political governance of the County Council and the impact this has on the way we work.
Course aimsThis course will explore the political face of the organisation in order to understand more about the role of an elected member and contrast this with an officers role. As well as covering Political Governance i.e. how are decisions made, the committee structure and the purpose of Scrutiny and Cabinet meetings. 
Course objectives
  • Understanding the constitution, and what this means for officers.
  • Developing skills to work in the political environment – to understand what is required of an officer at committee, protocols and procedures which operate in this environment.
  • Political awareness and how to avoid some of the pitfalls.
  • Where to get support and other sources of information – to make links to information on the web, officers who can provide advice and other activities which can support in this area.

Cancellation fee

For Non-attendance on the day there will be a charge of £80.

For cancellations between 1-5 days prior to the start date there will be a charge of £60.

However, an alternative delegate could attend if appropriate for the course – please contact the Performance Development Admin team for clarification.
