Overview

We strongly believe that ongoing professional development at all levels of the organisation is essential.

For those in management positions or aspiring to these roles a number of developmental opportunities are available.

New Manager Induction
The new ‘essentials for managers’ induction programme, has been designed to prepare managers for their role. The programme is a combination of workshops and skype sessions and is delivered by members of the HR Performance Development and HR Operations teams to managers across DCC. It covers topics such as leadership, having difficult conversations, giving feedback, performance management including disciplinary and capability, leave, and sickness absence.
If you have recently been promoted or have been in the role a couple of years but feel this would be useful.

Frontline Manager Development Programme
A 12-month programme designed to enable well managed services that promote the welfare of all children in Devon and each child’s right to live without fear, harm or neglect.

During 2016 and 2017, 80 managers have engaged with the programme. It has the following core elements:
• Pre- course self and manager assessment
• Attendance at 11 workshops
• Support and challenge groups
• Completion of 2 group challenges

Area/ Operational Manager Development Programme
This 18-month programme aims to develop highly competent and capable social care managers into outstanding operational leaders, who are better able to support their teams and influence the wider social care system, developing and embedding a culture of strengths based social care.

This programme will begin in March 2018 for all Area and Operational Managers in the service.
