Winter Preparedness for Schools
As Winter approaches, schools and early years settings are being encouraged to prepare; children and staff in educational settings are susceptible to the spread of infections, like seasonal influenza (flu) and gut infections (e.g. norovirus). It is important that all children aged 2-9 years are immunised against the flu. They develop the same symptoms to adults and can become very ill, and young children can spread infection to other vulnerable people.
Immunising children protects them, their family and the community where they live. Children aged 2 and 3 are offered the vaccine by their GP, and the schools vaccination programme in Devon is taking place now for reception to year 5 students. PHE produce guidance for settings, please follow the link to useful documents and resources. Settings can report outbreaks seven days a week to their local Health Protection Team on 0300 303 8162 (option 1).
"Weeks run from Monday to Sunday. Please note that weeks without communications to schools are ignored and the links will go to the last week where a communication was made in this category."
