Mathematics Masterclass: Learning from Japanese Lesson Study – Wednesday 6 December 2017

Masterclass overview:

Since the publication of The Teaching Gap there has been international interest in both the Japanese use of lesson study as professional development for teachers and the problem-solving approach that underpins mathematics teaching in Japan.

Subsequently lesson study has appeared in many places, but often it is a distortion of the model used in Japan with key elements diminished or entirely missing. This masterclass is an opportunity to understand lesson study as it is in Japan, how it supports professional development and how it can be used in English schools.
