Tithebarn Link Road (phase 2b)
The construction of the final phase of Tithebarn Link Road started in April 2017 and is due to be completed winter 2017/18.
This 600m section of road will provide the final link between Cumberland Way and the old A30, allowing Anning Drive to return, as planned, to the private ownership of the Science Park Campus. When completed, the road will allow housing developers access to begin construction of the local developments (subject to planning permission).
The link road will provide a permanent alternative to the M5 Jct 29/A30 junction for traffic travelling into the city from the east.
You can view an illustrative masterplan for the project here.
Once complete, the road will be a 30mph street lined with trees and off-road cycle/pedestrian facilities linking into the Blackhorse Lane cycleway, providing a high-quality route into the city centre.
To enable the road to be built safely, traffic management will be needed on Anning Drive. It’s likely that these tie-in works will be undertaken in late March/April although further details will be provided here at the time.
Access for cyclists crossing the construction site in an east-west direction using the Blackhorse Lane cycle route will be maintained at all times.
Please note, we are installing new pedestrian/cycle crossing arrangements on both the new link road and Anning Drive for users of Blackhorse Lane. These crossings will follow the new ‘parallel’ or ‘tiger’ format which is essentially a zebra crossing with a parallel area for cyclists.
