- Part of the councils Content Strategy and our work on Open Data is to support and promote greater transparency. The aims of which are to free our data and decouple the layers of our existing web architecture.
- We have decided that along with writing posts about our journey and learning, we thought we would share the more general day to day stuff as well – you know the stuff that fills our time, it won’t always be glamorous, in fact you can pretty much be guaranteed of that. However we want to be more open about what we do and we want to learn how being more open about all aspects of our work can help us improve what we do.
- It is all well and good having really catchy principles or vision statements but the challenge is helping people understand what you mean - so what do we mean by Open by Default - Digital by Design.
In the last few months we’ve made some major steps forward in our approach towards delivering responsive websites. We evaluated a series of responsive frameworks before settling on Twitter Bootstrap and then set about creating our own WordPress multisite framework with it. I think it’s safe to say that everyone in the team can now start to see the advantages of the framework and that general deployment times for sites is starting to decrease. Design and layout constraints are now being overcome and the sites that have been launched so far on new.devon.gov.uk have a fresh and vibrant feel about them and don’t all look the same which was one of the initial concerns when choosing the bootstrap framework.… Read the rest
- Our corporate Twitter account (@DevonCC) has been live for over 4 years now, in that time we’ve gained over 8,000 followers (closing in on Lady Gaga) and sent over 4,500 tweets covering a variety of services and issues.
