Who is collecting and using your personal data?

Devon County Council will act as a ‘data controller’ for any personal data that you provide to us. As such, we will ensure that the data given to us is processed in line with our organisation’s data protection policies and in line with your rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulations and associated data protection laws currently applicable in the UK.

Why are we collecting your personal data?

We are collecting your personal data to help the County Council’s inward investment team continue to improve the business offer in Devon and tailor activities towards businesses located within the County and those businesses expressing an interest in operating within the County. As part of this we will respond to any enquiries made and may provide occasional updates, prior notice of opportunities which may be of interest and event invites.

The types of personal data we collect include:

  • your name and address
  • your telephone number and email address
  • the type of company
  • your specific requirements in terms of business location, or aspirations for your business.

Who will we share your personal data with?

In some instances it may be necessary to share your personal data with partner consultants and organisations who have been specifically commissioned by the County Council, but this will not be undertaken without your prior consent. In such cases, your personal data will only be used by our partner consultants, or organisations to assist the County Council with the design and development of economic development opportunities, projects and proposals. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.

Data submitted via the Devon Delivers campaign website will be shared with our communications agency, Astley Media, OR with our appointed communications agency with whom we have an agreement to ensure your data is held securely and only for our campaign purposes.

How long will we hold your personal data?

We will retain your personal data for a period of 5 years and in line with our organisation’s record retention schedules. After this period the data will be deleted or Devon County Council will seek your consent to retain for another 5 year period.

Exercising your rights

Under the Data Protection Act 2018 and the EU General Data Protection Regulations you have the following rights:

  • The right of access to your own personal data.
  • The right to request rectification or deletion of your personal data.
  • The right to object to the processing of your personal data.
  • The right to request a copy of the information you provide us in machine-readable format.
  • The right to withdraw your consent to any processing that is solely reliant upon your consent.
  • Should you wish to exercise any of your rights, you should contact the Data Protection Officer.

Your right to complain

In the event that you wish to complain about the way that your personal data has been handled by Devon County Council, you should write to the Data Protection Officer and clearly outline your case. Your complaint will then be investigated in accordance with the Council’s customer feedback procedure. If you remain dissatisfied with the way your personal data has been handled, you may refer the matter to the Information Commissioner’s Office whose contact details are below:
