The Devon Landscape Policy Group has run joint training sessions and workshops throughout the County related to the protection, management and planning of Devon’s landscape. The Group has also involved specialist landscape consultants to deliver such training on its behalf. See below for details of past training events.
Managing landscape change
This half day training session, aimed at members of development committee members, was delivered in March 2014 by DCC’s landscape officer and others from the DLPG. Held at County Hall and attended by 16 councillors from Devon County Council and other planning authorities, it provided a basic introduction to landscape and included a practical session on the correct use of photographs and photomontages in visual impact assessment, following the Landscape Institute Advice Note 01/11. The handout provided at the training provides a quick reminder of key messages learnt. The DLPG is planning to repeat the training in association with Devon’s AONB partnerships during 2015/16.
Using Devon’s landscape character assessments in strategic planning and development management
This full-day technical workshop was aimed at planning officers and others dealing with landscape issues as part of the planning process. The training was delivered in March 2013 when around 60 planning officers and others dealing with landscape planning issues attended workshops in Tiverton and Totnes.
Sharing best practice in the use of Devon’s landscape character assessments in land management and landscape enhancement initiatives
This half-day technical workshop was aimed at land managers and others dealing with landscape conservation and enhancement. The training was delivered in March 2013 when around 25 people attended a workshop in Exeter.
Cumulative landscape and visual impact assessment and residential visual amenity assessment
This technical training session was delivered by Rebecca Knight CMLI of Land Use Consultants in October 2012. The training was for the benefit of the DLPG and planning officers dealing with planning applications for solar pv and wind farm development in particular.
