Strategic planning and policy

Strategic Planning

Devon County Council has a strategic planning role which extends to national and local levels of UK Spatial Planning. At a national level we seek to influence the content of new planning legislation, guidance and other material prepared by Central Government and its agencies. One of the main ways we do this is by responding to consultations initiated by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG).

Locally, we are responsible for minerals and waste planning in Devon and are responsible for the production of the mineral and waste plans. We also co-ordinate our input to the Local Plans prepared by the District Councils, and work in partnership with district councils and neighbouring authorities on strategic and cross-boundary planning policy issues.
