Have your say and help shape North Devon’s electoral wards

Posted on: 1 November 2018

A consultation to help shape the future of electoral wards and places where residents vote across North Devon is about to start.

North Devon Council is carrying out a review of polling districts and polling places following the Local Government Boundary Commission for England’s review of the electoral wards for North Devon earlier in the year.

The council would like to know what local residents think about the new boundaries which have changed for some wards in the district, as well as the location of polling stations, including some new ones.

Returning Officer for North Devon Council, Mike Mansell, says: “Over the years, the locations where voting takes place in North Devon has remained the same, except for occasions where a building is no longer available. Following the recent district boundary review we now need to review the existing situation to make sure it reflects and meets the area’s needs.

“We would like to hear from as many people and organisations as possible to make sure the changes meet the needs of local residents. If anyone thinks we should be looking at alternative locations, or has comments on the stations that were used in the past please let us know so that it can be taken into consideration as part of the review.”

The consultation closes on Monday 3 December. Residents can find out more and have their say online at www.northdevon.gov.uk/consultations. Comments can be emailed to elections@northdevon.gov.uk or sent in writing to Polling Place Review, Electoral Services, North Devon Council, Lynton House, Commercial Road, Barnstaple EX31 1DG.

Further information about a particular parish or part of the district is also available from the council’s Elections team, email elections@northdevon.gov.uk or call 01271 388277.
