Look out for our form to make sure you can vote

North Devon residents are being reminded to keep a look out for some important paperwork in the post to make sure they can vote in the next elections.
From Tuesday 28 August, the Electoral Service Team at North Devon Council will be sending out a household enquiry form to every home across the district. The form contains information about every person at that address that is currently on the electoral register.
North Devon residents are being asked to confirm the details of every person who should be on the register of electors who lives at the property as well as add or remove any people who should or shouldn’t be on the form.
Electoral Services Manager at North Devon Council, Judith Dark, says: “Being on the electoral register affects more than just being able to vote in elections. To highlight just a couple examples, the register is used by credit reference agencies when applying for credit and schools may also use it when checking catchment areas for school applications. It only takes five minutes to check the details on the household enquiry form and simply return it to us by post, confirm over the phone, online or by text – it really couldn’t be easier.”
Everyone who is 16 years of age and over, resident in the UK, a UK citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Irish Republic, a citizen of the European Union (EU), not legally excluded from voting should be on the electoral register.
Entries for North Devon residents on the electoral register also need to be updated with the council every time you move home, if someone has moved into your home, if someone has moved out of your home, if you have changed your name.
