A new website goes live today – bringing the Tarka Trail to your fingertips and showcasing all this beautiful route has to offer.

tarkatrail.org.uk provides visitors with information about places to visit, eat and drink, where to hire bicycles and places to stay along the route. The site is being launched by North Devon Council, following a successful bid for Coastal Community Team funding to promote the Tarka Trail and businesses along its route.

Inspired by the route travelled by Tarka the Otter, the Tarka Trail is an 180 mile, figure eight route traversing unspoiled countryside, dramatic sea cliffs and beautiful beaches. The southern loop incorporates the longest, continuous off-road cycle path in the UK. Walking or cycling, you can experience the best this beautiful area has to offer and tarkatrail.org.uk makes it easier than ever to plan your trip.

Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, Councillor Pat Barker, says: “With over 30 miles of flat, traffic free cycling, the Tarka Trail is the perfect cycle route for active families. But that’s not all there is to it – it’s a much longer route than many people realise and there is so much to enjoy along the way. We were conscious that although the Tarka Trail is well promoted, there wasn’t one place to find all the information you needed to plan a full visit. Working alongside the Coastal Community Team and partners, we are very happy to launch this new website, which is jam packed with everything you need to get the most out of your trip to this fantastic trail.”

Executive Member for Environment, Councillor Rodney Cann, says: “We are very lucky to have the Tarka Trail running though some of our most beautiful landscapes, which offers an opportunity to get really close up to some of the natural delights that North Devon has to offer. As well as showing places to visit and stay along the Trail, you can find news and events on the website and lots of information about the wildlife and natural habitats of this special place.”

Businesses along or near to the Tarka Trail can apply to list their business on the website for free, as long as they are relevant to the Tarka Trail. Register online at www.tarkatrail.org.uk/free-business-listing. There are also very reasonable paid advertising packages for those businesses who want to really stand out.
