Improvements made to Barnstaple car park
Posted on: 5 February 2018
A project to improve parking facilities at North Walk car park, Barnstaple is now complete.
North Devon Council has made the two disabled bays clearer, larger and easier to access. It has also designated space for four new ‘super bays’, which are larger in size than traditional parking bays.
The new, bigger bays are designed to give additional space to those driving larger family vehicles, or those with buggies and prams to unfold. Small motorhomes and larger vehicles that weigh less than 3.5 tonnes are also able to use the new bays (the bays cannot accommodate trailers or vehicles over 3.5 tonnes).
North Devon Council Leader Des Brailey says: “We keep our car parks under continual review to ensure they meet the needs of those who use them, so we are delighted to have been able to make these improvements to the North Walk car park. The new, bigger bays will make using the car park a more convenient experience to people with large vehicles. It will also help drivers with young children by providing additional space to unfold pushchairs when they remove them from their cars. I am also very pleased that disabled drivers will benefit from the improvements to the new, larger disabled bays.”
Further improvements to car parks are planned in the district; at a meeting of its Executive today (5 February), councillors agreed to make funds available to carry out work at Fremington Car Park. This work will improve the accessibility, surface and disabled bay provision at the location.Posted in:
