Spooky Halloween surprises planned at Yeo Valley Woodland

Posted on: 24 October 2017

If you go down to Yeo Valley Community Woodland in Barnstaple this weekend, you’re in for a spooky surprise.

The annual Halloween spookfest is being held on Sunday 29 October 2017. Have a go at carving a pumpkin to take home from 1pm – 3pm (there is a cost of £2 per pumpkin). Then, from 6pm – 8pm there is a free spooky walk around the woodland with games and a fancy dress competition in the marquee – so don’t forget to bring your torch.

The event has been organised by North Devon Council, the Children’s Summer Club and Friends of Yeo Valley Woodland.

Executive Member responsible for Parks, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Dick Jones, says: “This annual Halloween event is always popular with local families and is a great opportunity for anyone who hasn’t ever visited this award-winning community space before to come along and discover it for the first time.”

Local ward member for Barnstaple Yeo Valley ward, Councillor Joy Cann, says: “A family Halloween event where children will love to carve their own pumpkins during the day and later participate in an evening ‘spooky’ walk through the Yeo Valley Woodland. I hope this will be well supported as time, hard work and enthusiasm is given by volunteers to put this together – I have enjoyed attending this event previously and would highly recommend putting this date in your diaries.”

Local ward member for Barnstaple Yeo Valley ward, Councillor Ian Roome, says: “I encourage everyone to attend this event where the whole family will have a spooktacular time. I am sure the whole community will have fun and enjoy it.”

Anyone interested in attending the event is advised to wear suitable footwear and a coat, all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Yeo Valley Woodland is situated off Silverwood Heights, Barnstaple. There is no parking at the woodland, but visitors coming by car are advised to park carefully in Derby Road and use the entrance beyond the Kingdom Hall.
