North Devon Council is celebrating 20 years of fundraising by one member of staff, who has raised over £20,000 for local charities.
David Collins has held a tri-annual quiz for council staff since 1997, donating the proceeds to a number of local charities. Most recently David’s quiz nights have raised £1,200 for Headway North Devon, which supports those living with brain injuries. He was presented with a certificate by them for his efforts at their recent AGM.
Other local charities to have benefitted from David’s fundraising efforts are North Devon Hospice, Children’s Hospice South West and the Devon Air Ambulance. The grand total raised at David’s quiz nights over the years is £21,560. Of his efforts, David’s manager Nina Lake said “David has always had endless drive for hosting the quiz, and has successfully worked to drum up the same enthusiasm amongst his colleagues. This has meant numerous local charities have benefited from the proceeds of the quiz, not to mention the fun it has brought to those who participate in it.”
David was presented with a giant cheque by his colleagues at a recent leaving celebration, in recognition of his fundraising efforts. David said: “The tremendous amount raised over the years could not have been achieved without the support of NDC staff and friends. Also thanks to Barnstaple Rugby Club for hosting my quizzes. I am sure everyone has enjoyed our quiz nights and local charities have benefited from them.”
Although he is heading into retirement from his role as a Data Protection Officer at the council, David refuses to hang up his boots as quiz master and will continue to hold quizzes at Barnstaple Rugby Club for staff, raising even more money for worthwhile local charities.Posted in: Community
