Planning approval granted for major Ilfracombe development

Posted on: 24 May 2017

Outline approval has been granted for The Southern Extension planning application – a major housing led, mixed use development in Ilfracombe.

Planning officers from North Devon Council today (Wednesday 24 May 2017) approved the amended outline application (56675) which includes changes to the mix of land use and phasing across the site. The application is for 750 homes, along with community facilities including shops, business units, a primary school and a health centre.

As well as this, approval was granted for another application (62544), for land immediately adjoining the southern extension site to be used as playing fields.

Chief Planning Officer at North Devon Council, Mike Kelly, says: “This is a major development for Ilfracombe and North Devon, bringing with it many new facilities for the area. We have worked closely with the applicants throughout the planning process on the development so far and will continue to do so as it moves forward in the future.

“Following outline approval being granted on a planning application, applicants can then come forward with reserved matters applications. These applications provide us with more detail showing how the development will move forward. It also allows for large scale mixed-use schemes such as this, to be delivered in phases.

Details of the applications, including plans, are available to view on the council website.
