Braunton play area to officially be re-opened after refurbishment

Pill Gardens play area in Braunton will be officially re-opened next week after being refurbished with brand new play equipment.

Pupils from Year 6 of Southmead School in Braunton have been invited along to represent their school at the official re-opening which will take place at 2pm on Wednesday 29 March.

Pupils from the whole school were involved in the re-design of the play area when the council’s parks team visited the school last year to talk to them about what sort of equipment they would like to see at the play area.

A consultation event was also held at Braunton Academy to get more ideas from the local community.

North Devon Council’s Executive Member responsible for parks, leisure and culture, Councillor Brian Moores, says: “I am pleased that the Pill Gardens play area has been created using ideas from the local community, and in particular those who will use and enjoy it most, the pupils of Southmead School.  I would like to thank them for their valuable contribution to this project and hope that they and their families enjoy the play area for many years to come.”

The £43,000 play area was funded by section 106 contributions gleaned from housing developments as part of their planning applications.
