Another step towards a joint Building Control Service
Posted on: 5 December 2016
A new shared Building Control Service between two Devon district councils is another step closer.
At today’s meeting of North Devon Council’s Executive (Monday 5 December), it was agreed that a shared service joint committee could be created to set up its Building Control Service in partnership with Mid Devon District Council. A similar report will be going to the Mid Devon District Council Cabinet meeting on 5 January 2017.
The new joint service is expected to be operational in April 2017 and will see current Building Control officers working together to provide a new and improved service that covers both districts.
Leader of North Devon Council and Executive Member responsible for partnerships and shared services, Councillor Des Brailey, said: “Today’s Executive decision is another step closer to creating the new joint service. It’s great to hear that plans are on track for what will be an exciting opportunity for both councils. In the long term the new team will provide savings for both councils, being more efficient for officers and users of the service.”
As part of the project to create one team, the North Devon Council Building Control Team will be moving into new offices in South Molton in the new year.Posted in: Planning
