Free play sessions at Barnstaple museum this summer

Posted on: 12 July 2016

Celebrate the fun of the fair at the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon this summer.

The museum is hosting free art and crafts sessions from 11am to 4pm on Wednesdays during the school holidays.

The theme of this summer’s play sessions will be inspired by Barnstaple Fair, to tie in with the museum’s summer exhibition celebrating the last 50 years of Barnstaple’s Great Fair, which opens on 23 July.

The museum and the Barnstaple Fair Historical Society are working in partnership with Seize the Moment to lead the holiday workshops, where families will have the chance to make costumes to join in with Barnstaple Carnival. There will also be arts and crafts based on traditional fairground rides and attractions.

Executive member responsible for leisure and culture, Councillor Dick Jones, says: “Kids love the fair, so these sessions should really spark their imaginations. This is also a great opportunity for local families to get involved in Barnstaple’s carnival parade at the end of the summer.”

The workshop sessions are free and there is no charge to join the carnival parade in September. The workshops begin on Wednesday 27 July, with the final session taking place on Wednesday 31 August.

Keep up to date with news and events at the museum on Facebook and Twitter.
