More play equipment on its way for Bicclescombe Park
Posted on: 27 May 2016
The wait is almost over for new play equipment at Bicclescombe Park.
On Thursday 9 June, part of the play area will be cordoned off to allow North Devon Council contractors to safely install a new inclusive roundabout and multi-play climbing frame at the park. It should take about two weeks to complete the work.
The improvements to Ilfracombe’s multi-award winning park were funded jointly by North Devon Council, Bicclescombe Park Improvement Group (BPIG) and Ilfracombe district ward members. Cllr Mike Edmunds has also contributed £2,000 from his County Councillor grant funding towards the roundabout and the Lions Club has pledged £1,000.
Last summer the play area also benefited from new swings and a climbing frame to upgrade old equipment.
Executive Member for parks, leisure and culture Councillor Dick Jones, said: “Bicclescombe Park goes from strength to strength and it’s great to see the people of Ilfracombe enjoying such a fantastic facility.”
Local ward member, Councillor Geoff Fowler, said: “These further enhancements to the kiddies play equipment only goes to show how much value is put on the park by both the users and the local council. I’m sure as we approach the summer season our visitors will also appreciate the facilities and make good use of them.”
Local ward member, Councillor Ian Meadlarkin, said: “It is testament to the hard work of all the park users and contractors that such a great place is now able to boast up to date play equipment to further enhance the existing facilities of the park.”
Vanessa Archer, who is a member of Bicclescombe Park Improvement Group, said: “A big well done to all involved in making this possible, also to all the hard working volunteers and community support at the Mill. Fantastic job everyone.”
