Love your local market this fortnight – and always!

Show your love for Barnstaple Pannier Market by posting your photos and reviews online, as part of a national campaign.

Barnstaple Pannier Market is joining the Love Your Local Market campaign, which runs from 17-31 May. Organised by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA), the campaign aims to encourage new traders and celebrate everything that’s great about local markets.

A series of ‘meet the trader’ features will be posted on the Pannier Market’s Facebook page every day throughout the fortnight. Customers are also encouraged to share their experiences and photographs on the market Facebook page, to celebrate everything the local market has to give.

Executive Member for economic development, Councillor Pat Barker, said: “We are happy to be supporting Love Your Local Market this year. We hope to attract new traders and highlight the important role that markets play in the heart of the local community, not only for retail purposes but also as a valuable community asset in our town centre. Share your love of the market on the Facebook page, or pop into the market and show your love for our traders in person – you can do your shopping while you’re there!”

Market Manager, Simon Curry, said: “If you’re thinking of setting up your own business, Barnstaple’s pannier market could be a great place to start. The market is open six days a week all year round, and is an ideal venue for small traders just starting out, or more established businesses looking for an additional retail outlet. Stalls start at less than £9 a day and are available as a one-off or on a regular basis. Pop in or give us a call and we’ll be more than happy to talk through your options.”

There’s lots coming up in the next couple of months at Barnstaple Pannier Market. In June, the market traders will be dressed to impress in red, white and blue to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday and the bunting will be out for a street party on Butchers Row. North Devon Council will also shortly begin work to repair and repaint the market doors.

Barnstaple Pannier Market is open six days a week from Monday to Saturday, with a variety of Sunday events throughout the year. For more information about becoming a trader contact the market team on 01271 379084, email pannier.market@northdevon.gov.uk or download a trader pack online.
