Business leaders from across North Devon have come together to hear how Barnstaple could develop in the future.
The half day conference, called Opportunity Barnstaple, was organised by North Devon Council today (Wednesday 20 April). The aim was to highlight the economic potential of the town to businesses and partners, with updates on the town’s retail strategy, as well as the potential offering at Seven Brethren and the Riverfront.
Executive Member for Economic Regeneration, Councillor Pat Barker, said: “We had more than 60 stakeholders come along to today’s event, including businesses, developers and representatives from public bodies. This shows there is a real economic interest in our town. Although we’re at the very early stages of some major regeneration projects, we’re keen to move forward with a coordinated approach to developing the town. Therefore, I look forward to seeing how these exciting opportunities progress.”
Delegates at today’s event were also given an update on the Barnstaple WiFi trial, with a view to continue providing free WiFi to shoppers and visitors as a permanent feature. There was also a presentation on the Barnstaple Flood Defence Study.
A link to all of today’s presentations can be found on the council’s website.
The council will look at developing a prospectus for promoting key sites in the town in due course. Meanwhile, the council is also looking to organise a further event, focusing on the road network and a future parking strategy, in the autumn.Posted in: Economy
