The latest consultation on the document that will shape the future of northern Devon is entering its final weeks.

North Devon Council and Torridge District Council are carrying out this latest public consultation on the North Devon and Torridge Local Plan, focusing on:

  • A policy for starter homes on exception sites, such as under-used and unviable employment land
  • The preferred policy for wind energy development

The local plan shows what development the area needs and where it might be located. Once adopted, it will be the main document used to make decisions on planning applications.

Lead Member for the Local Plan at North Devon Council, Councillor Jeremy Yabsley, says: “I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to take part in this latest consultation, which focuses on specific policy areas of the Local Plan. The consultation is being carried out to comply with the latest government policy and procedures and to enable local communities to have their say on what the plan contains.”

Lead Member for Planning at Torridge District Council, Councillor Pete Watson, says: “This has been a huge collaborative effort to get to this stage and many people have already made their views known on various aspects of the Local Plan. It’s likely this will be the final opportunity for people to have their say on specific policy, so we would encourage them to read the proposals and make their views known and also to thank those that have taken part so far.”

The consultation ends at 5pm on Thursday 24 March. Residents can view the consultation documents and have their say using the councils’ online consultation page. Paper copies can also be viewed at the councils’ offices and at libraries across North Devon and Torridge.
