News of plans to modernise a Post Office in Barnstaple have been welcomed by North Devon Council.

The Post Office has announced it intends to change Hele Post Office in Oakland Park, Sticklepath, into one of its new main-style branches. The aim is to create a more modern and convenient retail experience for customers.

Speaking of the news, Council Leader Des Brailey says: “I am very supportive of this Post Office and am therefore delighted to hear there will be improved and additional services, as well as longer opening hours. I believe this will be well received by local residents, making it a more convenient and effective branch to visit.”

Executive member, Councillor Dick Jones, says: “We regard post offices as community hubs, which are really valued by local people. So this latest news is most welcome. The newly refurbished branch here in Sticklepath will provide a better environment for customers, with additional services, such as the ability to sort out car tax and deal with foreign currency requests.”

The new look Post Office is due to open in its current location in mid February.
