Council website identified as one of the best

North Devon Council’s website has been identified as one of the best local authority websites in the UK.

Out of 422 councils, North Devon Council’s was ranked second best last month. This was based on a survey that focuses on quality, user experience, accessibility, performance and search engine optimisation.

Council Leader, Councillor Des Brailey, says: “This latest ranking is really good news. It confirms what we set out to achieve, which was to make our website more user-friendly, enabling people to carry out more transactions and in a more accessible way through mobile devices, as well as computers. It’s also great recognition for our staff, who’ve put in so much effort to rewrite and redesign our new site. I hope our residents like its fresh, modern look and will continue to interact with us online to access our services and information.”

The council’s new website was launched in March 2015, using ‘open source’ software, which is free and supported by a community of users.

The council website survey was carried out by Sitemorse, which publishes the results of regular checks on local authority websites. More information can be found on the Sitemorse website.
