A consultation on a document that will shape the future of northern Devon has come to an end.

The consultation on proposed amendments to the North Devon and Torridge Local Plan ends today (Thursday 3 December). Members of the public have had the opportunity to comment on the proposed amendments to the plan for the last six weeks.

The consultation was carried out by North Devon Council and Torridge District Council following changes to government policy on the following areas only:

• providing affordable housing on development sites
• a new draft policy relating to starter homes on exception sites
• new policy options for wind energy development

Lead Member for the Local Plan at North Devon Council, Councillor Jeremy Yabsley, says: “Once again I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to respond to this consultation. The plan sets out how both districts will develop up to 2031, so it’s been very important to have a good response from the public to make sure we consider their opinions as well.”

Lead Member for Planning and Development at Torridge District Council, Councillor Peter Watson, says: “It’s been important that we were able to consult with our residents at each stage of producing the new Local Plan. This final phase, which has just concluded, was essential to ensure we were able to incorporate important considerations in the area of affordable housing and other elements of the plan. We would like to thank everyone for their views and submissions.”

Officers from both councils will now analyse the consultation responses, to decide which changes need to be made to the plan. Further individual consultations are expected to take place next year on an amended policy for starter homes and the council’s preferred option for wind energy development.
