‘Love where you live’ at Woodville next month

Posted on: 23 November 2015

The last in a series of community litter picks in Barnstaple takes place next month.

Woodville is the next area of the town to benefit from a campaign to encourage local communities to ‘Love where you live’.

On Thursday 3 December, North Devon Council will be leading a group of volunteers, including representatives from McDonald’s, which is sponsoring the event. They are also keen for the local community to help tidy up the area and raise awareness of the damage and cost of dropping litter.

Executive Member for Environment, Councillor Rodney Cann, says: “I’m looking forward to our third community litter pick, with previous events at Gorwell and Frankmarsh both a great success. These events show that working together we can really make a difference to the area we live in. It would be fantastic if the local community could come out and help us tidy up the area on the day and show that you ‘love where you live’.

Local McDonald’s Franchisee, David Hunt, says: “As well as sponsoring this overall project, it has been an excellent opportunity to join in on all three litter pick events and continue to raise the social responsibility of everybody to focus on this issue. I would encourage the Barnstaple public to not let this social project stop here, but to continue raising awareness and keep up the good work.”

Local ward members, Councillors Des Brailey and Dick Jones will also be taking part in the litter pick. They say: “We are happy to be involved in this event and hope that local residents will also get involved. Taking care of our community is everyone’s responsibility – from picking up litter to not dropping it in the first place. Everyone has a role to play.”

Council staff will be based on Woodville Road, close to Sticklepath School from 9.30am on the day, where volunteers should meet to collect their litter-picking equipment.
