A partnership between North Devon Homes and Chichester Developments is set to deliver 12 brand new affordable homes for local people.

The first six homes at Sandringham Gardens, Old Torrington Road in Barnstaple, were passed to North Devon Homes last week. Housing Association homes available to rent are advertised through Devon Home Choice, which is administered by North Devon Council in this area.

North Devon Council’s Executive member responsible for housing, Cllr Brian Moores, says: “Like most areas, demand for social housing is high here in North Devon, although supply is low. So, every new property that becomes available is more than welcome, especially for the individual or family who we can help off the social housing register and into their own home.”

Chief Executive of North Devon Homes, Martyn Gimber, says: “At North Devon Homes we want to increase the amount of affordable housing available for local people in North Devon. By working successfully in partnership with Chichester Developments and North Devon Council we have acquired twelve high quality housing units in Barnstaple that will be available to local people at an affordable rent. It’s really pleasing to see this high quality housing development completed and customers being given the keys to their brand new homes.”

Peter How, one of the Directors of Chichester Homes, expresses his delight with the development: “Sandringham Gardens is a small 47 home development of two, three and four-bedroom houses. So far, the majority of our open market homes have been sold to people in North Devon. It is great to see that some purchasers are making use of the Government’s Help to Buy Scheme to move on to the property ladder for the first time. We aim to complete this development by July 2016.”

There are currently 2,852 people registered on the social housing register, Devon Home Choice, who are waiting for a home in North Devon.

More information about housing and how to apply for the housing register is available on the council website.
