The proposal

The heritage service consultation is now closed.

Approval to transfer the county’s heritage services to a newly created Heritage Trust has now been given.

We are proposing to move service delivery permanently from Devon County Council to a separate organisation.

A growing number of heritage organisations across the country are forming themselves into devolved trusts; operating at arm’s length from the local authority but maintaining close links with it, and receiving their core funding through a formal funding arrangement with it.

On 11 December 2013 DCC Cabinet approved the in-principle establishment of a joint Heritage Trust with Somerset Heritage Service, subject to further public consultation and provision of more detailed financial information.

This consultation closed on Thursday 6 March 2014.
