Canal Basin Play Park

A new £50,000 play park for children aged between three and nine has been installed at the Grand Western Canal Basin.

It follows Devon County Council, which manages the canal, consulting local children over the design of the new play park at the Mid Devon Show and through local schools. The final design is a combination of the children’s views and a theme inspired by the canal’s setting and natural environment.

The themed play equipment includes slides, swings and a roundabout. Its centrepiece is a special ‘boat’ for children to climb and explore which can be customised with different designs.

The new play park was unveiled by Councillor Ray Radford, who is Devon County Council’s chairman, the councillor for Willand and Uffculme, Mid Devon District Councillor for Halberton and the chairman of the Canal’s Joint Advisory Committee.

The park was delivered by Proludic, and paid for following contributions from Devon County Council’s locality budget, Tiverton Town Council, Tesco and The Friends of the Grand Western Canal.

The new park is just a short walk from the Canal Visitor Centre, Tiverton Canal Co.’s floating café-bar (The Duck’s Ditty), gift shop and the nearby Canal Tea Rooms and Garden.
