Fund title: Shell: Bright Ideas Challenge
Focus of fund/fund aims:
Schools competition for students to come up with creative ideas to solve energy challenges of the future
Early-bird deadline - 19 January 2018. Final deadline - 27 April 2018.
What will cities look like in 2050? How will they be powered to be vibrant, healthy and clean places to live? That’s the question put to students aged 11-14 by The Bright Ideas Challenge, Shell’s cross-curricular schools’ competition. The challenge invites young people to use their creativity, problem solving, teamwork and STEM skills to devise innovative solutions that could power cities of the future. There are cash prizes for schools (up to £5,000) as well as vouchers and events.
Teams of 2 to 5 students are invited to think of a potential energy challenge facing a future city in 2050 and come up with ideas to solve it eg. through more clean and affordable energy or by making the city more energy efficient.
There are videos and toolkits on the Bright Ideas website to support teachers and help students to develop their entry.
