Following Brexit, the UK will continue to participate in the 2014-2020 EU funding programmes* until they close. This means that UK organisations will be able to continue to apply for grants and that projects with funding from the 2014-2020 programmes will be unaffected by the UK’s withdrawal from the EU. There is more information in Paragraphs 71-73 of the Joint Report on UK/EU Article 50 negotiations
*This excludes the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (farm payments)
LIFE+ is the EU programme for environment and nature conservation projects. It is divided into two sub-programmes:
LIFE-Environment includes support for environment & resource efficiency, nature & biodiversity, environmental information and governance.
LIFE-Climate Action will support regional low-carbon and climate resilience strategies as well as small-scale climate projects from SMEs, NGOs and local authorities.
The 2018 call for proposals for LIFE grants is due to be published soon. Applications can be made by public bodies, private commercial organisations and private non-commercial organisations (including NGOs).
There is support available from the JNCC which is the UK contact point for the LIFE programme. This includes a webinar on 16 April 2018 for UK applicants to introduce the new Multi-Annual Work Programme and two-stage application process. Find out more
There is a lot of competition for LIFE+ funding and so projects need to be well-prepared, innovative with a strong focus on sharing and disseminating expertise and good practice.
