Fund description:

Interreg provides EU funding for projects which encourage co-operation and sharing of good practice between European regions. The France-Channel-England (FCE) Interreg Programme covers the counties of southern/eastern England and the regions of northern France which border the English Channel.

Funding is available for joint initiatives, developed collaboratively between English and French partners to address one of the five programme objectives:

  • to develop research excellence in the FCE area, including improving the standard of innovation
  • to develop innovative solutions to improve services for the most socially and economically disadvantaged groups
  • to develop sources of renewable energy and energy efficiency in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • to improve the economic, environmental and social sustainability of the cultural and natural heritage, and to support economic growth through tourism
  • to enhance and protect coastal and transitional water ecosystems

The Interreg FCE programme also runs “Targeted Projects”: these are large-scale projects developed by the programme in a ‘top down’ approach. They aim to tackle pre-identified issues that are seen as being particularly important to the economic and sustainable development of the Channel area.

There is currently an opportunity to participate in a targeted project to tackle plastic pollution: the Plastic Pollution Targeted Project will aim to go beyond recycling plastics to focus on the recovery, the removal and reduction of plastics at all levels in society and regulating plastics more comprehensively from production to disposal. The key goal of the project is to promote sustainable solutions to enhance and protect coastal and transitional water ecosystems.

A Project Lab will take place on the 27 September 2018 in Brest, France. Potential partners must be able to attend the project lab event, which is key to developing the project idea and partnership.

Register your interest in the Plastic Pollution Targeted Project by 9 September 2018.

Interreg grants through the France (Channel) England programme can cover up to 70% of total project costs.

Gabrielle Bogart is the FCE programme facilitator for the South West of England and can help you develop your project and guide you through the application process, including helping you to find project partners in the UK and in France.
