Fund description:

The Early Outcomes Fund has been established by the Department for Education (DfE) to help partnerships of local authorities to develop strategic programmes to improve early language outcomes for 0 to 5 year-olds. There is a budget of £6.5m which will be used to support between five and ten projects.

  • The fund aims to achieve three key things:
to increase leadership focus at local authority level on the key issue of early language
  • to enable local authorities to undertake work to improve their services and how they are delivered
  • to support evaluation and partnership working amongst local authorities that will spread innovation more widely.

The DfE is seeking bids from partnerships of 3 or 4 local authorities (with 1 authority in the lead) in the region of £500k-£1.5m.

The target areas for this funding are local authority areas with early years outcomes ‘below the median’: Devon has outcomes above the median but would be able to participate in the programme as the lead in a joint bid where all of the partner LAs have outcomes below the median.

All bids should prioritise disadvantaged children in their actions, either by a clear focus on deprivation within the LA or because the LA as a whole has significant disadvantage.
