Fund description:

Creative Europe is the new EU fund for Europe’s cultural and creative sectors. It will provide funding for at least 250,000 artists and cultural professionals, 2,000 cinemas, 800 films and 4,500 book translations. There will also be a new financial guarantee facility enabling small cultural and creative businesses to access up to €750 million in bank loans.

Funding is available through two sub-programmes – ‘Media’ and ‘Culture’ (see below for further details).

Funding is available in 2014 through the Culture Sub-programme for:

  • transnational co-operation projects including exhibitions, exchanges & festivals and innovative ways of reaching new audiences for cultural works
  • networks to develop skills, career development and professional opportunities in the cultural sector
  • ‘European platforms’, involving programming and branding to improve the visibility of cultural works and talented creative professionals
  • literary translation projects for works of fiction with a high literary value

A small-scale transnational co-operation project can be set up between 3 partners in 3 different European countries but networks and platforms require partnerships covering at least 10 different countries.

The current calls under the Media Sub-programme cover:

  • development of audiovisual films (feature films, animations, drama or documentaries) with a view to distribution across Europe. This can be a single project or a slate of 3 to 5 projects.
  • support for television programming of European audiovisual works
  • support for the transnational distribution of European films
  • support for film festivals

There are various deadlines for the different strands and more calls to come, so keep an eye on the website for details.
