Fund description:

Kick-Start Fund for Schools

The Kick-Start Fund provides small grants for science events and activities organised by schools in challenging circumstances – this includes small schools in remote, rural locations. The funding can be used for a range of science and engineering activities, enabling pupils to take part in British Science Week which will be 8-17 March 2019.

There are three types of Kick-Start grants:

  • Kick Start grant of up to £300 for schools to run a science event or activity in British Science Week
  • Kick Start More grant of up to £700 for schools to host a science event or activity that involves both students and the local community.
  • Kick Start Youth grant of £150 for schools to run an activity in British Science Week organised by students

Grant money can be used for field trips, speakers, presenters, outreach shows or other costs of activities or events celebrating British Science Week.

Community Grant Scheme

This grant scheme offers £500 to £1,000 for community groups whose targeted audience/participants include those not traditionally engaged with science. These might be people from minority ethnic communities; with low socio-economic status; not in education employment or training; or who live in a remote and rural location.

There are also grants of up to £500 available to British Science Association branches to run local events during British Science Week.
