Recruitment and Retention Survey
Thank you to everyone who completed the online recruitment and retention survey. We received 121 responses in total in across Devon which provided us with some very valuable feedback.
Following the survey, we have put together an action plan to support settings across Devon with recruitment and retention:

Through the distribution of the ‘Working in Early Years & Childcare’ booklet through job centres, libraries, and colleges | |
Work in partnership with Children’s Centres to promote career opportunities in early years and childcare | |
Advertising through Primary Times and other publications to promote careers in the sector | |
Promote career opportunities and progression via the EYCS website | |
Support with recruitment | Continue to advertise job vacancies through www.devonjobs.gov.uk for a small fee (£20) |
Offer fully funded ‘Safer Recruitment’ training | |
Early Years & Childcare Advisors will continue to support with the recruitment process e.g. sitting on interview panels | |
Offer free templates on the EYCS website to support with the recruitment process | |
Work in partnership with schools/colleges and job centres to try to improve the skills of jobseekers completing job applications | |
Support with retention of staff | Continue to fully fund or part fund CPD training opportunities |
Continue to support Early Years Professionals and Early Years Teachers with high level CPD opportunities | |
Promote funding for GCSEs through Learn Devon and local colleges | |
Signpost to funding for Level 3 qualifications e.g. Skills for Care funding and 24+ Advanced Learning Loans | |
Offer support for Voluntary Managed Committees | |
Provide tips regarding retention of staff | |
