30 hours from September – Apply Now

Thank you for your continued work to encourage parents who want to take up a 30 hours place in the autumn term to apply early and get their code in good time. As you know, HMRC sometimes needs more information from the parent to check whether they’re eligible, so parents should allow time for this. If parents want 30 hours in September they must get their code before the 31 August.

We would also be grateful if you could continue to remind parents who already have an eligibility code to reconfirm their eligibility for 30 hours every 3 months.

As well as 30 hours, we would be grateful if you could remind parents they also need to reconfirm their eligibility for Tax-Free Childcare, if they receive it. Parents receiving both Tax-Free Childcare and 30 hours can reconfirm for both at the same time.

Parents who will no longer be claiming 30 hours in September, but still want to claim Tax-Free Childcare (TFC) do not need to submit a new application. However, they will need to continue to reconfirm their eligibility every 3 months for TFC.

The number of parents experiencing technical difficulties has reduced significantly. However, some parents will still experience issues and we have therefore agreed that temporary codes (beginning ‘11’) will now be available throughout the year. This means that you can no longer assume that a temporary code was issued in advance of the termly deadline and therefore you should rely on the validity start date linked to that code.

Please encourage parents who are having difficulties with their online application or reconfirmation to contact the helpline on 0300 123 4097. The helpline will then check eligibility and provide them with a temporary code if they qualify for 30 hours.
