Land charges

The County Council Land Charges section is responsible for providing information in connection with local land charge searches. The information provided answers questions on highways maintainable at public expense, road schemes and proposed traffic schemes.

Generally solicitors and licensed conveyancers submit a search request to the relevant district council. The search is a statutory requirement in any property or land-based transaction and reveals any planning, environmental health, financial and highway restrictions recorded upon the search subject. A fee is charged for this search. Please contact the relevant district council or check their website for their current fees.

The List of Streets (LoS) held under Section 36(6) of the Highways Act 1980 are available using an online map viewer, see the link below. The LoS are accurate at the time of viewing but are subject to change. Please note, the LoS data is updated periodically, the County Council can give no guarantee that it represents the position of LoS recorded on the definitive list. Reliance should not be placed on this data for legal or commercial purposes.
