Applying for Early Years Entitlement

Applying for Early Years Entitlement gives you 15 hours free early education and childcare each week for up to 38 weeks of the year for all 3 and 4-year-old children.  From September 2017 some children of working parents may be eligible for 30 hours free early education and childcare each week for up to 38 weeks of the year.

When is my child eligible?

Child born between:Entitled from start of:
1 April and 31 Augustautumn term after their third birthday until they go to school
1 September and 31 Decemberspring term after their third birthday until they go to school
1 January and 31 Marchsummer term after their third birthday until they go to school

Where can my child get the Early Years Entitlement?

Your child can get the Early Years Entitlement at:

  • pre-schools and playgroups
  • day nurseries
  • nursery classes in independent schools, in academies or in schools maintained by the local authority
  • nursery schools, either private or maintained by the local authority
  • registered childminders.
