SEN Funding update

I am writing to all parents, carers and schools, because I want to be absolutely clear about the changes the County Council is making regarding assessment processes and funding for SEN. A briefing letter I wrote to head teachers before the end of term has been widely misinterpreted and has led to a great deal of concern.
I can only apologise for any anxiety this has caused you. The letter was intended to give schools as much notice as possible of future changes. School staff use part of their summer to prepare for the new term. Appropriate communication with parents was planned for September as part of the transition process.

The letter has led to a number of misunderstandings, especially with regard to funding. In order to clear up any concerns the key facts are explained on the attached information sheet which can be found on the Devon SEND Local Offer pages and I hope the information will reassure you. The link can be found here: http://devon.cc/sendsupport. This document will be updated in the autumn.

If you still have any concerns about SEN provision in September then please do not hesitate to discuss with your school or our SEN team who can be contacted at

Yours sincerely,

Dawn Stabb
