Local Government Association (LGA) Peer Review

In November 2016, Devon had a peer review from the Local Government Association (LGA).  The Peer Review report is now available. The fundamental aim of the review was to help councils and their partners reflect on the provision in the local area for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities contained in The Children’s and Families Act 2014 and in the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Code of Practice 0-25 2014.

This review was not an inspection; it provided a critical friend approach to challenge the council and their partners in assessing their strengths and identifying their own areas for improvement. The approach involved reviewing Devon’s self- evaluation, documentation and data; sample reviews of education, health and care plans; interviewing a range of children, parents/carers and staff from early years settings, schools, colleges, other providers, council and health commissioner and provider organisations. A number of visits to early years’ settings, schools and colleges were carried out alongside a range of focus group sessions. It is important to recognise that the findings are based on this range of activity.
