Officer Decisions

Head of Planning, Transportation and Environment - Dave Black

Summary of Matter or Issue Requiring Decision:

Endorsement of the North Devon Biosphere Strategy for Sustainable Development 2014-2024.

Decision Taken:

Approved

Summary of Reason(s) for Decision Taken:

This has been prepared by the Biosphere Partnership to guide both its own work and to provide a context for other partners and stakeholders to deliver programmes and projects in support of the sustainable development of the Biosphere Reserve.

It is regarded as good practice in line with the Seville Strategy and the Statutory Framework of the World Network to produce a Strategy to guide the management of Biosphere Reserves. This Strategy sets out a clear framework for future action and the County Council has been fully involved in its development. Public consultation on the draft Strategy took place early in 2015.

Summary of Alternatives or Options considered and rejected:
The County Council has ensured the Strategy is consistent with the Authority’s strategic objectives. The Council recognises the value of having the Strategy in place setting out the framework for how sustainable development will be enhanced within the Biosphere. Without an agreed Strategy, action could take place on an ad hoc and unmanaged basis to the possible detriment of the Biosphere.
