Devon County Council’s Cabinet Committee gave approval for the construction of the first phase of the E4 cycle route, on Cumberland Way and Pinhoe Road to commence.
The construction of the route, which is expected to take up to 9 months, is due to start in early October 2017 with completion expected during the summer of 2018.
During the first week on site, the compound will be set up to provide welfare facilities for the workforce and a storage area for plant and materials.
Over the past few months, work has been taking place to protect the reptiles living near the site. This has involved capturing them and moving them to an alternative location, not far from the site. So far, over 50 reptiles (slowworms) have been relocated, with ongoing phased vegetation clearance being performed to help capture the remaining reptiles.
At the start of construction in the beginning of October, and as part of the phased clearance of vegetation, some hedges on the site will be removed to facilitate construction of a new road junction.
