In October 2017 Devon County Council will be starting work to construct the first stage of a strategic cycle route along Cumberland Way.

This two-way, bi-directional cycle track is the first of its kind in Devon where cyclists will be segregated from pedestrians and vehicles.

The image below illustrates a typical cross-section of the E4 cycle route.

The cycle route will connect the areas for development and growth east of the city to the University and the city centre.

The route when finished will:

  • link the Redhayes Bridge/East of Exeter with the University and the city centre
  • be fast and direct and where possible provide segregated cycling and pedestrian facilities
  • provide a step change in cycle provision for Exeter.
