Neighbourhood planning

A neighbourhood plan gives you the opportunity to formalise your community’s wishes for the development of your neighbourhood in the planning system.

It becomes part of the formal planning policy for the area and holds much more weight than any other local documents produced such as parish or community plans. Plans must address the development and use of land and conform with your local plan.

It will be used for decision making about proposals for development in your community and gives you a real opportunity to shape your local area.

If you are considering producing a plan, Neighbourhood Planning in Devon provides information on our responsibilities and how these may link with neighbourhood planning. The guide tells you what we can and can’t do in relation to preparing a plan and links to useful information we already hold.
