South & West Devon procurement process (closed)

South & West Devon Children’s Centre services will be re-commissioned as three contracts based on the South Hams, West Devon and Teignbridge district council boundaries. Each area will have one or more main children’ centre hub as well as linked sites for delivery of children’s centre services.

The main children’s centre sites have been decided based on the highest deprivation ranking, the number of Under 5’s living in the area and the current leases. Linked sites have been kept to ensure that families can easily access children’s centre services and outreach support will continue to be provided.

Teignbridge District Contract

Within the Teignbridge area, there will be 2 main children’s centre sites and 2 linked sites, which will support 6,157 children under 5, of which 924 are in the top 30% of deprivation. These sites include;

  • Newton Abbot (Hub)
  • Teignmouth (Linked site)
  • Heathfield – Moors Edge (Hub)
  • Teign Valley (Linked site)

South Hams District Contract

Within the South Hams area, there will be 1 main children’s centre site and 2 linked sites, which will support 3,556 children under 5, of which 63 are in the top 30% of deprivation. These sites include;

  • Totnes (Hub)
  • Dartmouth (Linked site)
  • South Brent (Linked site)

West Devon District Contract

Within the West Devon area, there will be 1 main children’s centre site and 1 linked site, which will support 2711 children under 5, of which 67 are in the top 30% of deprivation. These sites include;

  • Tavistock (Hub)
  • Hatherleigh (Linked site)

We will look to transfer the remaining children’s centre buildings for use by other Early Childhood Services, including schools and pre-schools. There will be further discussions with the coal community about;

  • Dawlish
  • Newton Abbot
  • Kingsbridge

The following areas do not currently have a dedicated Children’s Centre building and will continue to receive children’s services through outreach, via community buildings;

  • Buckfastleigh
  • Okehampton
  • Ivybridge Town Hall (current lease expires 2016)

The transfer of these buildings will help to support additional places for vulnerable 2 year olds in the South & West Devon area.
