Working out how much you might pay

Means tests

If you need care and support services, we’ll work out how much you can afford to pay. This process is called a “means test” and is done via an assessment of your finances. Currently, if you have savings, investments or property worth over £23,250, you will be asked to pay for all your care.

From 2020 the values and rules associated with “means tests” are likely to change.

For more information about our current arrangements refer to Paying for care.
