Help to stay living at home
If you have a physical, sensory or learning impairment or long-term illness, we can provide help and advice to you to help stay independent and access all available support.
If you think that you, a relative or someone you care for might need support phone Care Direct on 0345 1551 007 or email email@example.com to speak to us about having a social care needs assessment. If you are eligible for services we will work with you to identify your needs and the best ways to meet them.
Equipment to live independently
The Independent Living Centre offers a free assessment and information service to anyone looking for equipment and gadgets to help them. They don’t sell equipment, but will work with you to look at your needs and find the best solutions.
Benefits and finances
If you have a disability you may be entitled to benefits, including help with housing, VAT relief or a TV Licence discount. Visit the Gov.UK website to find out what is available and use the online benefits calculator to see if you are claiming all you are entitled to.
The Money Advice Service offers money saving tips and discounts for disabled people, as well as free and impartial money advice.
Hobbies and activities
There is a range of activities and groups in Devon for people with physical and sensory impairments. Search Pinpoint and refine your search by age, location and ability to find activities and clubs near you.
Devon Sensory Team
Our sensory team provides services to people who:
- are visually impaired
- are Deaf
- have an acquired hearing loss
- are deafblind – sometimes known as a dual sensory impairment – a significant combination of hearing and sight loss.
Learning disabilities and autism
Our learning disability team supports adults with learning disabilities to live as independently as possible. We can support with housing, money and benefits, getting in to work and finding equipment.
